I have found that these were the best tasting macarons:
Nicole Lee Fine Chocolates - I found this when they were at the Fremont Art and Wine festival last 2011. Great chocolates, and gourmet macarons with unique flavors. These macarons were heavenly, and some flavors are melt in your mouth. You can order them online at . If you live within the SF Bay Area especially near the Tri-Valley or East Bay area, they will deliver your orders for you at no charge. Great service, I will order more soon when I have a craving.
Whole Foods Market -- I tried the 2 for $4 -- these are big macarons that has a decent sweet shell but the buttercreams are flavorful. These are made with organic ingredients. Great for a tiny sweet snack. Great mango, and coffee flavors. They have red velvet, chocolate, pistachio, hazelnut and other flavors that are rotating every day.
La Boulange de Dome -- Chain bakery that features French pastries, sandwiches and coffee shop -- these are two sweet, but they have great pistachio and raspberry macarons. Here is their website:
